OLYMPIA – The Port of Olympia announces the commencement of the installation of new interpretative signs honoring Billy Frank Jr. along the Billy Frank Jr. Park and Trail starting Monday, June 10. Situated along Eastbay from Northpoint through Swantown Marina to the corner of Marine Drive and Olympia Ave, the trail will feature these informative markers.

While no closures are expected, minimal disruption may occur with slight detours due to the presence of heavy machinery equipment at designated locations. The installation is estimated to take between one and two weeks.

The Port of Olympia extends gratitude for the community’s cooperation and understanding during this enhancement project, which aims to commemorate the remarkable legacy of Nisqually’s Billy Frank Jr. These interpretive signs will illuminate his significant contributions to the Indigenous Indian treaty rights struggle and his steadfast commitment to environmental justice protections.

The Port eagerly anticipates sharing the newly installed signs with the community and appreciates their patience as they continue to honor Billy Frank Jr’s enduring legacy.
